There are a variety of ways to experience the 'Steamers' and the valley. Our 'Walks for All' leaflets available from our Pier Houses give information on a range of walks, from gentle strolls to more challenging hikes. There are so many beautiful walks around Ullswater that it is hard to know where to start. Our helpful Pier House staff will be happy to advise you on the suitability of walks.

Walker's Value Ticket
Cruise any three stages of the lake between Glenridding, Howtown and Pooley Bridge and enjoy one of our two most spectacular walks. The walk between Pooley Bridge and Howtown gives stunning views of the lake and mountains surrounding the valley, dominated by the magnificent Helvellyn. Or follow the Howtown to Glenridding footpath and stroll past secluded bays, wooded shorelines and waterfalls to find your own idyllic picnic spot. Your walk can be taken at any stage of your journey - cruise to begin or relax at the end of your walk aboard the 'Steamer'.
The fare for this journey is £9.90 for adults or £4.95 for children.
Glenridding to Howtown Single
The 'Steamers' provide the perfect opportunity to cruise to the start of one of the most famous and spectacular scenic walks in the Lake District, the Howtown to Glenridding walk. This low-level walk is 7 miles/11km from Howtown pier to Glenridding pier house and takes roughly 3 to 4 hours.
The fare for this journey is £5.20 for adults and £2.60 for children.
Howtown to Pooley Bridge Single
The walk from Pooley Bridge to Howtown offers unparalleled views down the lake to Helvellyn at the far end. A must for photographers - this walk gives some of the best views of the lake and its surrounding mountains. Relax as you cruise back to Pooley Bridge aboard one of the 'Steamers'.
The fare for this journey is £4.80 for adults and £2.40 for children.
Scenic Cruises
The Short Cruise
Board the 'Steamer' at Glenridding and enjoy this relaxing 70-minute cruise to Howtown and back.
The fare for this journey is £8.40 for adults and £4.20 for children. We also offer a family ticket for two adults and up to three children for £22.90.
Or board the 'Steamer' at Pooley Bridge for the 50 minute cruise to Howtown and back.
The fare for this journey is £7.60 for adults, £3.80 for children and £20.90 for a family ticket.
You can leave the boat at Howtown should you wish to spend time exploring this delightful hamlet and return on a later 'Steamer' for your return journey.
The Full Round Trip
A complete two hour round the lake sailing which can be taken from Glenridding or Pooley Bridge. Stay aboard the 'Steamer' for the full return trip or go ashore at Pooley Bridge, Howtown or Glenridding for a stroll, lunch or high tea and join any later Ullswater 'Steamer' for your return journey.
The fare for this journey is £11.30 for adults and £5.65 for children. We also offer a family ticket for 2 adults and up to 3 children for £30.90.
