Ullswater ‘Steamers’ have just found out that they have been shortlisted as a finalist in the internationally prestigious World Responsible Tourism Awards.
Now the team from ‘Steamers’ have to wait patiently until World Travel Market, (WTM), held at London’s ExCeL, in early November (02 - 05), to discover if they will win through in their category ‘Fresh Water and Marine Cruising’.
The World Responsible Tourism Awards now in their 12th year, celebrate the most inspiring stories in responsible tourism, covering a variety of topics, which reflect the hottest issues currently debated in the world or responsible and sustainable tourism.
The lucky winners across the 13 categories will find out during World Responsible Tourism Day (04th November) if they have won.
But that’s not all, Rachel Bell, Ullswater Steamer’s Marketing Manager, has been invited to take part in a very special panel discussion on 05th November at WTM, alongside colleagues from TUI Cruises, EcoCircuitos Panama and Jyväskylä Finland. The panel will talk about sustainability best practice within the cruising sector, the economic and environmental impacts of the industry, and have the opportunity to talk about the environmental measures each has put in place to reduce the negative impacts and enhance the positive.
WTM, now in its 36th year is an opportunity to network, negotiate and discover the latest industry opinion and trends. More than 50,000 senior travel industry professionals, government ministers and international press, visit ExCeL each November whilst generating more than £2.5 billion of travel industry contracts.
Rachel Bell, said: ‘’The whole team at Ullswater Steamers is dedicated to maintaining the beauty of this most stunning of lakes. We do our utmost to minimise the impact of our business on the lake and its environs. We are involved in a huge range of environmental projects, transport initiatives and green business initiatives and over the years have put in place a huge raft of measures to ensure we maintain this landscape both for the present and way into the future. We are immensely proud of what we do and of the place in which we work - it really is the place to be!
