Lake District visitor attraction, Ullswater 'Steamers' is hoping a new movie will help drive higher visitor numbers to the serene waters of Ullswater in 2015.
The movie, 'Mr Turner', released this week and focused on the life of painter, JMW Turner, should increase interest in the works of a painter whose landscape sketches include a graphite on paper representation of the magnificent Aira Force waterfall. In spring 2015, Ullswater 'Steamers' will be opening a new pier at Aira, on the western side of the lake, in conjunction with the National Trust, who manage the land around the waterfall.
This will open up new cruise and walking options for visitors, whether their interest in Aira Force is inspired by Turner, by nature, or by Wordsworth, whose poem 'The Sonambulist' is based on the legend of Sir Eglamore and lady Emma, which enshrines the waterfall in mystery and ghostly visions of Emma, who fell into the chasm below the waterfall while sleepwalking.
Ullswater 'Steamers' expects the pier to open in May 2015 and is gearing up for massive interest in the new cruise options that will accompany it.
Marketing manager, Rachel Bell sats, "The new Turner film is perfectly timed to boost interest in Aira Force, which is often thought to be the most beautiful waterfall in the Lake District. This should help the new pier get off to a great start, serving visitors wishing to visit Ullswater's western shore.'
