We are delighted to announce Ullswater Steamers is OPEN  

Tickets must be pre-booked, please click here to book tickets.  Our capacity is severely restricted so please book early to avoid disappointment!

Glenridding Pier House is currently open for takeaway tea, coffee, ice cream and walk up ticket sales. The toilet facilities will be open, and the car park is chargeable and monitored. 

We are supportive of the Government guidance to ease the country out of this lockdown, keeping you and our communities safe as part of the Step 3 lifting of national lockdown restrictions.

 Until 19th July 

Cruises: Boats will operate a limited service . Timetables will be regularly reviewed and updated online. Please pre-book tickets due to limited capacity. Only one household/support bubble (max of six persons) can pre-book tickets and travel together onboard. Tickets and timetables are now open until 30th October including the one hour mini private charter cruises

Test & Trace: Please use the NHS app and scan in on arrival at the premises.

Food & Drink: We are operating a takeaway service only but customers can consume food & drink on the outside seating by the Pier House. No food or drink is permitted onboard and onboard saloons will remain closed.

Social Contact: Indoors limited to the 'rule of six' or two households any size including support bubbles. Outdoors, permitted up to 30 persons. 

19th July onwards

Social contact: Step 4 will take place no earlier than 19 July; the Government hopes to be able to remove all legal limits on social contact. We can then operate at full capacity and lift some if not all social distancing measures.

Test & Trace

It is still a legal requirement for hospitality/tourism in England:

  • to continue with track and trace work
  • to collect the names of all persons travelling over the age of 16 (not just the lead person in the group) pre booking
  • to display NHS QR code posters so that customers can register their presence on arrival at the premises using the NHS COVID-19 app

Please note, we advise non pre booked passengers to scan in via the NHS app upon arrival.   For customers that refuse to provide contact details (either under our own track and trace arrangements or checking in with the NHS app), all reasonable steps will be taken to prevent access to the attraction. The NHS COVID-19 app can be downloaded in advance to scan the QR code posters. 


Can I book a ticket? Tickets are on sale now. If you wish to purchase a ticket after 21st June, please sign up here. 

What happens if I turn up and don't have a pre-booked ticket? You must pre-book tickets online. We cannot guarantee you a ticket if you turn up on the day. 

What can I do at Glenridding, Aira Force or Pooley Bridge in the time I have allocated? We have pulled together some itinerary ideas for you on our timetable page to help you plan your visit. Click here to view

Do I have to wear a mask or face covering? Yes - All passengers are required to wear a face covering by law whilst on the premises including on-board the boats, on the pier and inside the pier house/shop areas. Please bring a suitable face covering with you. There are some exemptions under UK law click here. We do have face coverings available for a small charge at the pier houses.

Can I get on the boat at Howtown? No, you can disembark at Howtown but you cannot board here until further notice. 

Can I do the Howtown walk? You can book a single ticket to Howtown – please select on booking which ticket you require – single or return.

Is there anywhere to eat at Howtown? Yes but please check with the Howtown Hotel in advance.  

Do I have to book Aira Force? No you don't; their main car park has spaces on a first come first served basis.

Can I bring a dog? Dogs are allowed on board, please purchase a ticket online for £1.

What numbers can I book for a wedding charter ? Until we reach Step 4 we cannot take more than 30 persons as part of wedding private charter and social distancing measures remain in force. 

Is there a minimum person policy on booking tickets? Yes, due to limited capacity on-board we cannot accept single ticket holders. Our Duo Adult tickets are for two adults. Please purchase ONE ticket for TWO Adults. We have also split tickets into Child, 1 Adult & 1 Child, Family ( 2 + 2 ), Under 3, Four Adults. You can add dogs, extra adults and Glenridding car park tickets on the booking pop up page before you check out. IF there is space on the day we can accommodate single travellers on walk up sales. 

Can I bring a bike? Unfortunately, we do not have space for bikes (or folding bikes) until all restrictions are lifted. Bike racks are available at Pooley Bridge and Glenridding pier houses.

Can I travel in a wheelchair? We have limited capacity for wheelchairs, please call us on 017684 82229 to book a place.

What happens if I miss my cruise departure time? Please don’t be late for your sailing because we probably will not be able to transfer you onto a later trip that day.

What happens if you cancel sailings? If we cancel sailings on the day that you are booked to visit us, we will automatically refund you through our online booking system. Your payment will be credited back to your original payment card within 5 working days.

Are the toilets open in the Pier Houses? Yes they are, but social distancing measures must be observed so only one person at a time please (unless you are from the same household or family group).

Are the toilets open onboard? They are for emergency use only. Please ask a member of crew. 

Are the saloons onboard open or closed? The saloons on board will remain closed. Passengers will be seated on the upper decks and canopy areas. You must remain in this seat for the entirety of the journey, even if the weather changes.

Can I bring a picnic with me? If you wish, but do not attempt to eat or drink onboard the boat as face coverings must be in place at all times. Please also take all your rubbish home with you and be sure to recycle!

Am I allowed alcohol onboard? No. Eating and drinking onboard is not allowed and you must wear your face covering at all times. If you appear to be intoxicated we reserve the right to refuse entry and no refunds will be given.

Our booking is for more than 6 people in our household bubbles - can we sit together? No, if there are more than 6 persons in your household bubbles, you will be split into smaller groups to be seated on the boats. This is to ensure social distancing measures are adhered to. You must remain seated and wear your face covering at all times. 

Can I use my complimentary voucher? We are not accepting vouchers at this time – please contact us.

I am a season ticket holder, can I still come? We have currently suspended all season ticket holders until further notice.

Can I use an accommodation 10% privilege voucher? We are sorry but we cannot accept any of these vouchers for the 2021 season. Our capacity is reduced to under 30%. We apologise for the inconvenience. If things return to normal we will review the situation.

Can I use my 50% off voucher from Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway? No, currently we have suspended the use of these vouchers until such a time that we can return our capacity to normal. Keep hold of your voucher though and we will redeem it when we are accepting these again! 

Is entry still free for Blue Peter Badge holders? We are sorry but we cannot accept these until further notice.

I have a Prosecco and Cruise gift voucher or a monetary gift voucher how can I book a ticket online? We ask you to email us with your voucher details and we can book you on a cruise. 

Can I book tickets through Viator, Get Your Guide and other third-party sellers? We have suspended ticket sales through third-party sellers until further notice. 

Can I buy a bus and boat ticket? No, we have suspended our Stagecoach Bus & Boat tickets until further notice 

What is a support bubble? Please see the Government guidance for clarification of a ‘support bubble’  

Can I get my money back if I to cancel my cruise due to COVID-19 restrictions? Yes. You can transfer your booking with no admin fee, or you can request a refund.

What happens if I feel unwell before I visit? Please stay at home and email us to re-schedule your visit. Do not travel if you feel unwell and please remember to follow the Government guidance and do not leave home if you or someone you live with has any of the following: a high temperature, a new, continuous cough or a loss of, or change to, your sense of smell or taste. If you or anyone in your household has any of the symptoms listed, stay at home, isolate and do not travel. Our health and safety measures are constantly monitored to reduce the risk associated with the presence of COVID-19 in line with any changes to Government guidelines as we start to emerge from lockdown at Step 2.
