Winter sailings unveiled, alongside new private cruises for household bubbles

Taking effect from next Monday 26 October, the new seasonal timetable for 2020/21 will enable people to link up with the Ullswater Way walking route and some of the most iconic views in the Lake District National Park throughout the winter months.

It will include full lake return trips between both ends of the lake at Pooley Bridge and Glenridding, as well as easy options to sail to Howtown and onward walking adventures. With the red deer rutting season in the nearby Martindale valley, October and early November are unique times to enjoy one of nature’s most breath-taking spectacles.

Ullswater Steamers’ winter timetable also features additional regular trips between Glenridding and Aira Force, to explore the panoramic autumn colour, and the power and beauty of this majestic waterfall.

Alongside scheduled services between now and the Spring, new private cruises on board MV Lady Dorothy are also being launched – enabling people to enjoy mini charter cruises of Ullswater in their own household bubbles. The 60-minute personalised sailings will be available four times daily until 22 December.

Rachel Bell, Head of Marketing & Development at Ullswater ‘Steamers’ says, “The Lake District is an all-year round destination, and for many people, the autumn and winter is one of their favourite times of year to get out and experience the wide open spaces, tranquility and dramatic scenery of the World Heritage Site from the water. “Of course, these winter sailings aren’t just about visitors either. They are also a great way for locals from across Cumbria to get outside, recharge their batteries and explore the stunning landscape we are so lucky to have right here on our doorstep.

“Meanwhile, Lady Dorothy is the ideal vessel to host immersive family experiences for household bubbles who want an extra special experience. Small groups following the ‘rule of six’ will have exclusive access to a boat which usually carries around 40 passengers, with plenty of space to enjoy the views from both inside the cabin and out on the main deck. They can even bring their dog if they want to!”

See timetables and fares for scheduled autumn/winter sailings here. Due to social distancing, passengers on Ullswater ‘Steamers’ should pre-book a minimum of 2 tickets per sailing before 9am on the chosen date of travel.

Private charter cruises on Lady Dorothy can take up to 12 passengers and will cost £150. They should be booked 48 hours in advance.

In line with current government guidance, face coverings must be worn on all services.
