Private winter cruises for household 'bubbles' take to the water

As hospitality businesses prepare to reopen for business tomorrow, Wednesday 2 December, Ullswater ‘Steamers’ is set to launch new socially distanced private cruises alongside its usual winter scheduled services.

The one-hour ‘bubble cruises’ with a skipper will be available four times daily until 22 December, giving single household family groups the chance to book online and enjoy their own mini charter cruise in their own household bubble.

Each sailing will take place on MV Lady Dorothy, giving passengers an immersive family experience with plenty of space to enjoy the views of the panoramic winter landscape from both inside the cabin and out on the main deck.

These personalised sailings will complement the restarting of Ullswater Steamers’ full winter timetable. That means people also have the chance to book tickets for a seasonal scheduled cruise on board one of England’s largest heritage passenger fleets throughout the quieter winter months – with the only exceptions being Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Rachel Bell, Head of Marketing & Development at Ullswater ‘Steamers’ says, “It is fantastic for us to be getting back on the water and helping people to enjoy the dramatic scenery the Lake District is known for in a welcoming, COVID-safe way. “The mini charter cruises certainly provide another option for families to get outside and make the most of the fresh air and wide open spaces they have been waiting for. It’s proving particularly popular with locals who want to use these socially distanced cruises to not only get out and boost their own happiness and wellbeing, but to help support local and fly the flag for their local communities.”

Please note: the cruises are for one household/support bubble and follow the current guidance on the ‘Rule of 6’ and tier restrictions/travelling advice (based on where the passengers live). The private cruises should be booked at least 48 hours in advance and cost £150. Please contact Ullswater Steamers if you have any questions.

In line with current government guidance, face coverings must be worn on all services. The attraction has achieved its official ‘We’re Good to Go’ accreditation to show it is following all the official Government safety measures and public health guidance.
