Pre-Arrival Information

We continue to operate at limited capacities to give you more space onboard our boats.

We recommend customers book tickets online in advance to avoid disappointment. We cannot guarantee travel if you turn up on the day. Tickets must be pre booked before 9am on the day of travel. 

Our primary focus will always be the health and wellbeing of both our staff and customers, and we ask that you continue to support us as we resume cruises and services in a phased manner, listening to current Government guidance to keep you, our team, and communities safe.

  • We strongly advise you to book your tickets in advance, to avoid disappointment. We cannot guarantee travel on the day.
  • It is compulsory for all passengers over the age of 11 years unless exempt to wear a face covering inside the pier houses, retail areas, and the onboard saloons. 
  • Passengers are not required to wear a face covering in outdoor spaces and on the upper decks. 
  • Due to lack of space, all indoor seating in the pier houses has been removed. Customers must wear masks inside these areas unless exempt whilst purchasing takeaway food and drink. 
  • Bars onboard all boats lower decks have been closed. The inside saloons areas are for passengers use only, seating and toilets. Masks must be worn inside these areas unless exempt.  
  • We advise all visitors to the Steamers to continue to support track and trace work and register their presence on-site using the NHS COVID app and scanning the QR code on the posters.
  • Please do not travel if you feel unwell, contact us, follow the Government guidance, and get a test.
  • Please observe signage for all enclosed facilities including onboard saloons, pier houses and toilets.
  • Please give each other space, the crew cannot enforce social distancing so please be considerate to fellow passengers and staff.
  • We will continue with our enhanced cleaning routines in touchpoint areas. 
  • Screens will remain in place on the pier house counters.
  • Please note some facilities at Pooley Bridge pier are closed for the winter season.

FAQs

  • Will I be required to wear a face-covering? From 30th November it is compulsory for all passengers over the age of 11 years unless exempt to wear a face covering inside the pier houses, retail areas, and the onboard saloons. Passengers are not required to wear a face covering in outdoor spaces and on the upper decks. 
  • Can I book a ticket? We strongly advise customers to book tickets online before visiting. We cannot guarantee space on the day.
  • Is there a minimum person policy on booking tickets? No, we can now sell single tickets for sole travellers. We are restricting capacity onboard but not allocating seating.
  • What happens if I feel unwell before I visit? Please stay at home and email us to re-schedule your visit.
  • What happens if I turn up and I do not have a pre-booked ticket?  We cannot guarantee you a ticket if you turn up on the day.
  • Can I get on the boat at Howtown? We cannot take pre-bookings for boarding at Howtown. Tickets will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis if there is space onboard. We strongly advise you not to board at Howtown. Take the cruise part of your journey first and walk back from Howtown.
  • What happens if I miss my cruise departure time? Please do not be late for your sailing because we probably will not be able to transfer you onto a later trip that day.
  • What happens if you cancel sailings? If we cancel sailings on the day that you are booked to visit us, we will automatically refund you through our online booking system. Your payment will be credited back to your original payment card within 5 working days.
  • How long is the cruise? Our cruises from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge (or vice versa) takes approximately one hour. The cruise time from Glenridding to Aira Force (or vice versa) is approximately 20 minutes. Cruise time from Glenridding to Howtown is approximately 35 minutes and from Pooley Bridge to Howtown is approximately 25 minutes.
  • Can I travel in a wheelchair? We have limited capacity for wheelchairs, please call us on 017684 82229 to book a place onboard and discuss your requirements.
  • Can I bring a dog? Dogs are allowed on board, please purchase a ticket online for £1.
  • Can I bring a bike? Yes if we have space. We have limited space onboard for bikes due to the heritage nature of our vessels, so we cannot guarantee travel on the day. Bikes accepted onboard are charged at £2.50, these tickets are not available to purchase online, spaces limited. Bike racks are available at Pooley Bridge and Glenridding pier houses.
  • Can I bring a paddleboard? Yes if we have space. We have limited space onboard for boards due to the heritage nature of our vessels, so we cannot guarantee travel on the day. Boards accepted onboard are charged at £2.50, these tickets are not available to purchase online.We ask that paddleboards are deflated before travelling on the boat. 
  • Are the toilets open in the Pier Houses? Glenridding pier house only during the winter. Please take notice of the site signage as we are limiting numbers in all inside areas.
  • Are the toilets and saloons open onboard? Toilets onboard are open. We will be restricting the number of passengers in the indoor saloon areas. Our onboard bars will remain closed but passengers can use these seating areas. Please wear a face covering inside these areas unless exempt. 
  • Can I bring a picnic with me? Yes for consumption in outdoor picnic areas and upper decks only. 
  • Am I allowed alcohol onboard? Our licensed bars onboard are currently closed. If you appear to be intoxicated, we reserve the right to refuse entry and no refunds will be given.
  • Can I buy food and drink at the pier houses ? Yes, takeaway only, there is no seating inside and customers must wear a mask inside these areas unless exempt. Food/drink can be consumed in outdoor picnic areas and upper decks. 
  • I have a Prosecco and Cruise gift voucher or a monetary gift voucher how can I book a ticket online? We ask you to email us with your voucher details and we can book you on a cruise.
  • Do I have to book Aira Force car parking? No, you do not; their main car park has spaces on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • What numbers can I book for a wedding charter? We can accommodate wedding charters up to the maximum capacity for the boat. Please ask us for further information.
  • Can I buy a season ticket? We are suspending season ticket sales until further notice.
  • Can I use my complimentary voucher? Please contact us with details of your voucher so we can arrange tickets for you subject to availability.
  • Can I use an accommodation 10% privilege voucher? We have not re-issued these vouchers for 2022.
  • Can I use my 50% off voucher from Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway? We are working on a new joint ticket with our sister attraction. Please keep an eye on our website for further details.
  • Can I book tickets through Viator, Get Your Guide and other third-party sellers? Not at this time. Please book tickets direct through our website.
  • Can I buy a bus and boat ticket? We are in discussions with Stagecoach to reintroduce the Bus & Boat tickets in 2022, however, these are not currently available.
