with Ullswater 'Steamers'
We operate one of the largest heritage passenger fleets in the world offering visitors an experience they will never forget. The Lake runs a serpentine course for eight miles through expansive vistas of Lakeland’s highest mountains. Helvellyn at 3,117ft (950m) crowns Ullswater, at the South-Western end of the valley, standing on a mighty plateau approximately 9 miles (14.5km) in length and 4.5 miles (7km) wide.
The ‘Steamers’ operate an all year service with varying timetable connections. Cruise times vary from 40 – 120 minutes. Our Meet and Greet service adds an extra dimension to each visit with a complimentary souvenir lake guide for all passengers. “I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o’er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.”
William Wordsworth 1815
This landscape has inspired famous poets and artists for centuries, often compared to Lake Lucerne for its dramatic mountain scenery and tranquillity, affording the finest views in the Lake District National Park. Cultural itineraries explore the areas that inspired William Wordsworth to write poems such as the Daffodils, Prelude and Somnambulist.
