To celebrate the English Lake District becoming a World Heritage Site in the summer of 2017, join the Friends of the Lake District at the end of their Great Landscapes Week (2nd-9th Sept) to immerse yourself in one of the most outstanding parts of our beautiful National Park.
The event starts by sailing across Ullswater from Glenridding to Howtown. On the journey across the lake you’ll hear some fascinating facts about the area. Then stroll, skip or do a little jig as you walk along the stunning lakeshore path back to Glenridding admiring the views and appreciating exactly why this special landscape is now internationally recognised as one of World Heritage Site importance. On the way you can stop and enjoy an alfresco picnic, chat, make a star stick or a journey stick or maybe even take the chance for a little swim (optional, if it takes your fancy).
The route is approximately 7 miles in length and dusk/dark will fall before you reach the end so the walk will finish under the stars and moonlight (hopefully) with torches and a chance to drink in the night time sounds, sights and smells of the great lake and its surrounding fells.
When: 4.30 pm 9:30 pm (Sailing time 4:55 pm), Friday 8th September.
Activity grade: Moderate/Strenuous - 7 mile walk taking approx 3-4 hours walk along an undulating path with up and down hill stretches and some slightly rocky parts
